OakCD.com is the personal website/media catalog/occasional weblog of programmer and web designer Tom Oakes. This project started in 1997 as a method for keeping track of a burgeoning CD collection and finding discs in a 300-disc changer.

Development started with a database designed in Microsoft Access 97. The database has subsequently moved to SQL Server 2000 running on a Windows Server 2003 box, and the interface has moved to ASP pages. Media streaming is accomplished via Windows Media Services.

Since 1997, I've been a software developer and web designer, specializing in Microsoft technologies, particularly Visual Basic, SQL Server, Access, ASP, ASP.NET, AJAX, Windows Mobile, and VB automation. I have a particular affinity for music and technology related to playing and sharing music in general, such as Windows Media Services.

I am originally from Omaha, Nebraska, and currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan with my wife Meghan, son William, and dog Rockford. I am a diehard Husker fan, aspiring head chef, part-time gardener, and avid drinker of hand-crafted ales. I work from my home office, and have a hard time not sitting down in front of my PC.
